Welcome to our club!
What is Rotaract?
Founded in 1967 as an initiative of Rotary, Rotaract stands for “Rotary in Action”, and is aimed at young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35. Together we organize projects / activities, and support charities. In addition, personal development, networking and simply having fun together play a major role within our organization.
Rotaract is an association that strives to make a meaningful contribution to society. On the one hand, this means that charities at home and abroad are supported. Often these targets are groups of people who are less affected and who could use a helping hand. On the other hand, the members of Rotaract are also a good cause in themselves; By organizing and following training courses, workshops and projects, Rotaractors gain experience and there are many learning moments.
In addition, Rotaract is a social club, with drinks, outings, excursions, company visits and cultural events. Keywords are networking, leadership development, teamwork, fun and enthusiasm! Rotaract is a worldwide organization with more than 176,000 members, spread over 156 countries. The 43 clubs in the Netherlands can be found in both large cities and small villages. Rotaract Netherlands currently has approximately 450 members.
Who are we?
Rotaract Club of Groningen International is a part of the global Rotary family.
Based on the growing international interest for Rotaract in Groningen, our club has been established on 7th of June 2019. Besides Rotaract Groningen (Dutch club), we are the second Rotaract club in the beautiful city of Groningen. Currently, we are the only international Rotaract club in our district (District 1590). Our club consists of approximately 15 club members from 10 different countries and 11 different nationalities, and growing! Moreover, we are the only hybrid Rotaract club in the North of the Netherlands.
What do we do?
We meet bi-weekly on Friday nights in the wonderful city centre of Groningen. Our meeting takes place from 19:30 to approximately 20:30. Afterwards, we have social gatherings in the various pubs in the city centre where we can chat and get to know each other. Since the Covid-19 pandemic we have met online on Zoom. This Rotaract year, our club has transitioned to a hybrid club. This means that all of our club meetings can be joined physically in Groningen, as well as online from all over the world. This allows for members which are abroad, or in quarantine to able to join our club meetings online, while the majority of the club activities are held physically in Groningen.
At the club meetings, we discuss our projects and activities, as well as Rotaract events happening in the Netherlands and Europe. Additionally, members present themselves and guest speakers are invited to host lectures or workshops in order to develop personally and professionally. The meetings often ends with Joys and Sorrows section, followed by a social gathering.
The project themes for this Rotaract year are currently being discussed in the club.
